This general guide helps customers use household cleaning products more carefully. It does not replace the directions, warnings or first-aid information printed on a specific product label.
Read the complete label first
Check the intended use, suitable surfaces, dosage or dilution, warnings, storage directions and any required protective measures before opening the pack. Use the product only for the purpose stated on its label.
Do not mix cleaning products
Never combine two household cleaners unless the label expressly permits it. Products that are safe when used separately may react when mixed and can release harmful fumes, generate heat or damage surfaces.
Use the stated quantity
More product does not automatically mean better cleaning. Follow the label dosage or dilution. Excess product can leave residue, increase rinsing requirements or affect the cleaned material.
Check surface suitability
Where the label recommends it, test the diluted product on a small hidden area first. Pay particular attention to natural stone, painted surfaces, polished finishes, metals, fabrics, wood and other sensitive materials.
Ventilation and personal care
Use products in a ventilated space when directed. Avoid unnecessary skin and eye contact and follow any glove or protective-equipment instruction on the label. Wash hands after use and before eating or touching the face.
Keep products secure
Store cleaning products upright in their original containers with caps fully closed. Keep them away from food, medicines, heat sources, direct sunlight, children and pets. Do not transfer a cleaner into a drinking bottle or an unlabelled container.
Spills and accidental exposure
Follow the product label for spill handling and first aid. If a product enters the eyes, is swallowed, causes breathing difficulty or leads to a concerning reaction, stop using it and seek appropriate medical or emergency guidance. Take the product label or pack information with you where practical.
Disposal
Do not reuse an empty cleaning-product container for food, drink or personal-care storage. Follow the label and applicable local waste guidance for product residue and packaging.
